HARRY ELSBY CARNIGHAN, 89, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in New Albany, IN.

Harry was born to Harry W. and Dorothy Pauline Elsby Carnighan on April 30, 1928. He was a lifelong resident of Silver Hills, New Albany, a member of the Silver Hills Historical Society, and a long-time member of the Pendennis Club in Louisville, KY. He was the Owner and President of the Lewis & Culp Company founded in 1919, currently Lewis & Company of Kentucky, Inc.

Harry was married to Mary Ann Steinhauer Carnighan (deceased) and had three children: Ann Carol Carnighan Cicarella (Tom), Harry Michael Carnighan (deceased), and Kelly Carnighan (Barbara). He had five grandchildren, Michael Cicarella (Robyn), Jeffrey Cicarella (Erin), Cassie Cicarella (deceased), Kevin Cicarella, Gwendolyn Carnighan, and Andrew Carnighan. Harry also had four great grandchildren.

He is best remembered for his charming personality, razor sharp wit, and sense of humor. He was passionate about flying, getting his pilot's license in 1947 at the age of 19, and for the next couple of years he barnstormed over southern Indiana. Harry was very proud of his son, Kelly, who also is an accomplished pilot and now his grandson, Andrew, who is following their aeronautical footsteps. Tennis was another love of Harry's, which he enjoyed playing with a great group of friends every weekend at the Ellis tennis court on Silver Hills. Their camaraderie endured for decades. Harry competed in local tournaments and won many trophies. Harry was revered for his compassionate and engaging friendship with people from all walks of life, and he will be greatly missed by those whom he touched in life.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 1st, from 2 pm ~ 7 pm at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany with a private burial Saturday, December 2nd, at Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the ALZHEIMER'S RESEARCH FOUNDATION, 3152 Little Road, Suite 146, Trinity, Florida 34655.
