Charlotte Anne Ruffead was the daughter of Anna H. (d. NC 1990) and Harold Ruffhead.

She married in Manhattan, New York City, New York, in 1970, Angelo Rudy Abbate was the son of Clementina and Charles Abbate.

Obituary:

Charlotte Anne Ruffead Abbate Durham Charlotte Anne Ruffead Abbate born in Philadelphia on March 19th, 1940 died on March 6th, 2012 at Croasdaile Village Retirement Community in Durham.

She is survived by her husband Angelo R. Abbate, her brother Harold "Skip" Ruffead of Hollywood, MD and his daughter Erin Ashley Ruffead of Jacksonville, FL. Charlotte was predeceased by her parents Harold and Anne Ruffead of Putnam, CT.

Ms. Abbate earned her BFA with a major in interior design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. She received the Master of Fine Arts degree at UNC Greensboro, where she was employed as a visiting design professional in the Department of Housing and Interior Design.

She and her husband owned & operated the Angelo Abbate Design firm in NYC. She founded Watts Street Studio, an architectural design practice in Durham with Anna Wu AIA. Ms. Abbate later joined the UNC Chapel Hill planning department retiring in 2006. She was a member of NSID and an affiliate of AIA.

Charlotte loved animals, rescuing many and supporting rescue efforts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Animal Protection Society of Durham, NC, 2117 E. Club Blvd. 27704.

A service celebrating her life will be held at Croasdaile Village, Few Chapel, on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 2:00 PM., chaplains Rev. Denise Waters and Rev. Laurie Hays Coffman, presiding.
