Mervin L. Slaton, age 91 of Deport, died on October 23, 2017 at his home. Funeral Services have been scheduled for 1:00pm on Wednesday, October 25 in Wood Funeral Homes, Deport with Reverend Bill Dickey officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
He was born in Halesboro, on July 23, 1926, the son of Tom and Lillie Myrtle Wright Slaton. He married Eva Colleen Freeman on December 10, 1949, He was a US Navy World War II Veteran and a long-time farmer and rancher. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Deport.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen of Deport; his children: Donna Blount and husband, Jimmy D. of Temple; Kathy Lynn Holt of Paris; David Slaton and wife, Nina of Marble Falls; one brother Weldon Slaton and wife Terri of Paris; 6 grandchildren: Chris Holt, Renea Cope, Jeffery Blount, Nick Blount, Jamey Slaton, and Amber Grizzle; 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
