Eugene served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-24D #42-40492, 531st Bomber Squadron, 380th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Barbour County, Alabama prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army on February 22, 1942 at Fort McPherson, Atlanta, Georgia. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Salesperson and also as Single, without dependents.
B-24D #42-40492 took off on a bombing mission in the Babo region when the aircraft was shot down by the pilot of a Japanese fighter and crashed in a jungle. No trace of the aircraft nor the crew was found. The wreckage, however, was eventually located in May 1972.
Eugene was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.
He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Eugene also has a "Cenotaph" in the Epworth United Methodist Church Cemetery, Eufaula, Alabama that the displays the date he was "officially" declared by the military as dead.

Note: In 1972/1973 the remains of some the crew from this B-24 were found & identified. However, it is unclear if S/Sgt Allen's remains were recovered or not.
