Sibyl S. (Smith) Rainwater, 92, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away of causes natural to age at The Gables Assisted Living in Pocatello on November 22, 2017. She was born on May 18, 1925 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Harold M. Smith and Marjorie M. (Spear) Smith; a family of two siblings, a boy and a girl. She attended school in Bartlesville, graduating in 1941. After high school, Sibyl continued her education by taking classes at a university. She met and married Joe H. Rainwater. Together they had three children, Lynn, Ross and Mark. In 1951, the family moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho where Joe worked at the site at the M.T.R. In 1961 Joe went to work for American Potato Co. in Blackfoot as director of research. After living in Blackfoot for a time, they moved to Pocatello.
Sibyl was an avid bird watcher, artist and photographer, She was an accomplished water color painter. She was also a very good cook. Sibyl enjoyed spending time at the family cabin on the Madison River in Montana. She loved being with her family and spending time with friends. She was a member of the Pocatello Art Center where she served as President for a time.
Sibyl was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe in 2010; and a daughter, Lynn. She is survived by her sons, Ross of Payson, Arizona and Mark of Pocatello.
Sibyl's family will receive friends at an open house at Downard Funeral Home 241 North Garfield Ave., Pocatello on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 11:00 until 1:00 PM. Followed by a luncheon at Juniper Hills Country Club.
