CHARLES WILLIAM ADAMS born May 20, 1926, passed uncharacteristically quietly on October 31, 2016. He was born in Dixon, IL to William and Alma (Bryan) Adams. He graduated from Dixon High School in 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served with Honor in Belgium and was discharged in 1945. He went to college on the G.I. Bill, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree from Arizona State University in Marketing and Advertising. He married Caroline Reed Thrun on April 14, 1950, in Florence, Arizona. In 1951 they moved back to Valparaiso to join the family business of raising turkeys and running Strongbow Turkey Inn. Known to everyone as Chuck and Chuggie, they raised their four children in the middle of a turkey farm in the Brown House. Chuck was a member of Kiwanis, the National Restaurant Association, and the Winamac Old Car Club. He loved all things airplanes and aviation, antique cars, ballroom dancing, tennis, music, traveling, reading and building the business. Not many know how creative and artistic he truly was. He was also the editor of the Turkey Plucker's Gazette, his own little newsletter for all the seasonal turkey pluckers on the farm. He called himself The Oldest Turkey Plucker in Existence. But his true passion was the love of his life, Chuggie. Their devotion to each other was amazing to observe. He was our mentor, our leader, our hero and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Alma Adams, and his brother Lawrence. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Chuggie, his sister-in-law Cathy Adams; his four children: Shellie (Brian) Holmes, Charlene (Kevin) McGuire, Russ (Nancy) Adams, and Holly (Rocco) Abessinio; 13 grandchildren: Josh (Sarah,) Jesse (Carissa,) Jake (Polly,) James (Ali,) Jocelyn (Dion,) Jenny (Greg,) Joy (Jason,) Ashley, Courtney, Matthew, Austin, Haley and Emma; 12 great grandchildren: Ellie, Aria, Corbin, Ryder, Quinn, Abby, Ella, Lily, Ginny, Lucy, Samantha and Silas; many nieces and nephews and special friend Joel Edwards. Visitation will be Friday, November 4, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Moeller Funeral Home in Valparaiso. Private funeral services will be held on Saturday.
