John W. Lorance, retired employee of the Union Pacific and a resident of Grand Island for the past 15 years, died suddenly shortly before midnight, Saturday (Feb. 12, 1938), at his home, 1103 East Sixth Street. While he had been ailing for some time, death came as a shock to members of the family and friends.

The departed was born Jan. 29, 1873, in Illinois, having attained the age of 65 years and 13 days. He had been in the employ of the Union Pacific for 25 years, when he retired about ten years ago. His wife preceded him in death here, March 29, 1925.

Surviving to mourn his passing are four daughters, Mrs. W. E. Bennett, Mrs. Ruby Decius and Miss Lela Lorance, all of this city, and Mrs. Grace Ellyson, of Newcastle, Neb.; three sons, Price, at Wray, Colo., and Glenn and William, Grand Island, and a sister, Mrs. Amanda Bell, also at Wray, Colo.

Completion of funeral arrangements await word from members of the family residing at more distant points.
