"Jimmy" was born in LaPrairie, Il (Adams Co.), the son of Ollie and Lois (West) Alexander. He married Mary Marlow on Feb. 25, 1945; she preceded him in death on Nov. 28, 1966. He later married Carolyn Trovillion Hancock on July 29, 1968; she survives. He is survived by two sons, two daughters, one stepson, one stepdaughter, stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four stepgreatgrandchildren, one brother and one sister-in-law.

He graduated from LaPrairie High School in 1943. He was a prominent farmer all of his life. "Jimmy" lived on the family farm from his childhood and enjoyed the development of his farmstead until he moved to Golden, Il in July 2006 due to poor health. Although he found great joy in farming, he always found time for his family.

He was a very active member of the Elm Grove United Methodist Church, serving as a lay pastor for several years. He was a member and president of the Augusta School District Board of Education for many years. He was a member and past president of the Mt. Horeb Cemetery Board, served on the board of Golden Good Shepherd Home, Augusta Farmer's Co-op, the Northeast Township Board, and was a 52-year member of J.L. Anderson Lodge #318 A.F. & A.M.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 15, 2007, at the Elm Grove United Methodist Church, near LaPrairie, and burial was in Mt. Horeb Cemetery, also near LaPrairie and Golden.
