Bertha was a school teacher and her first husband Paul McCaw died in an accident in March of 1946. In January 1948 she married August Bauer, a bakery owner in Tempe, AZ. Bertha had a large collection of salt and pepper shakers. She also enjoyed visiting with friends and family. Bertha was thrilled, when in 1992 she got to meet (President) Bill Clinton while he was campaigning in the Phoenix area.
