Frank, was born February 1st, 1926 in Cardenas, Cuba, the son of the late Francisco Fernandez Barroso and Caridad Maria Costa.

Frank Costa, M.D., age 91 of Onsted, Michigan, passed away; November 16th, 2017 at Henry Ford Health System in Jackson, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family.

In addition to Frank being an excellent physician, he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, patriarch, man and friend. Frank was true and honorable to his hippocratic oath of "do no harm". In fact, Frank was always kind to his patients, and more importantly he "did good" for his family and friends. Frank was truly an honorable human being, and I'm proud to have called him my friend.

Frank graduated with honors from the University of Havana, Cuba Medical School in 1956. Prior to Fidel Castro gaining control of Cuba, Frank departed Cuba for the United States although he did not speak English. Frank dreaded the possiblity of living without freedom, in a socialistic or communistic country. Frank feared for his life in a dictatorial country controlled by Fidel Castro. Upon arrival in the USA, he found himself alone without the benefit of family or friends, and with little financial resources. I asked Frank one time how he survived with precious limited resources, his reply "you have to be a toughie, and you have to fight for what you want". Frank traveled to Chicago and served his residency at Michael Reese Hospital. Upon completion of his residency, he relocated to Michigan, where he met a young, beautiful nurse named, "Rose" who would become his wife. Frank and Rose had their first child, a little girl, Adelle in 1959, followed by two sons, Frankie and Tony. He was a popular and successful family physician and practiced general medicine as well as obstetrics and gynecology in Monroe, Michigan for over 50 years. Frank was very proud of delivering hundreds of new born babies into the world. Frank was honored by the State of Michigan in Lansing with a certificate commemorating his half century of medical service to the citizens of Michigan. Frank was truly an American success story, and a role model of capitalism, hard work, integrity, honesty and determination.

He is survived by his son Frank Costa of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, son and daughter in law, Anthony and Beth Costa of Onsted, Michigan; son in-law, and friend Matthew Jenkins of Northville, Michigan. Grandchildren; Matthew Franklin (Matty) Jenkins, Aaron Costa, Andrew, Sydney, Salvatore, Sullivan and Sisi Costa, great grandson; Noah Costa, brother in-law Phillip Oliva of Scottsdale, Arizona, sister and brother in-law, JoAnn and Gary Chinchak of Brownstown, Michigan. Sister in-law Justine Oliva of Allen Park, Michigan, cousin Zulema Volpe Costa of Havana, Cuba, cousin Maria (Magda) Magdalena Costa of Miami, Florida and many former patients, friends, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife Rose Marie Oliva-Costa, his only daughter; Adelle Marie Costa-Jenkins and brother, Johnny Barroso.

A memorial mass was held in his honor on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at St. Rita's Catholic Church located in Clark Lake, Michigan.

"They knew his touch would heal
His hand would find the pain beneath
And so they came to find and feel
The great gift of his care"
