What timing! A month or so ago my mom and I were working at the oldest part of the cemetery in Madison, MO and noticed a small corner of stone sticking up. By the time we finished unearthing it, we had most of the pieces of a shattered stone.
It says:
IN MEMORY OF
MARY ANN HARDWICK
BORN FEB 2 1849
DIED JUNE 9 1850
It was located within feet of Martin Grove's grave, which led us to believe she may be his grandchild. Martin's grave has huge cedar tree growing up out it, and this baby's stone was just east of the tree. That all said, I think this baby is probably the first, and from what I've seen on the internet, possibly unknown, child of Cary Hardwick and Sarah Grove.
