D. Dwain Phillippi, age 90, of Tipton, died Friday, November 10, 2017 at Charlotte Stephenson Manor, Adrian. He was born January 6, 1927 in Berrien County, MI to Walter Robert and Vera Irene (Mars) Phillippi. Dwain served his country in the United States Navy Reserves from 1944 to 1946. On November 20, 1976, he married Betty Petersen in Ann Arbor, MI who passed on April 10, 2015. Dwain served on the Michigan State Police Force and was the last Lieutenant Post Commander at the Clinton, MI post, where he retired in May of 1976. He was a member of the Michigan State Police Command officers Association (MSPOCA), Michigan State Police Trooper Association (MSPTA), Huron Valley Italian Greyhound Club (HVIGC) and Adrian Amateur Radio Club (AARC).
Dwain is survived by his children, Dennis (Liby) Phillippi of Delvain, WI, Philip (Cheryl) Gamber of Mason, MI, Dan (Jackie) Gamber of Lakeland, TN, Mickey Okasinski of Sandusky, OH and Lori Pollitz of Mason, MI; 17 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Phillippi, one son, Robert Phillippi of Scottsville, KY and one brother, Merle Phillippi.
Funeral services for Dwain will be held on Saturday November 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Gloria Dei Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tecumseh with Rev. Gordon Peterson officiating. There will be visitation before the service at 1:00 p.m. There will be a private internment service in Tipton Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held on November 17 from 5:00 7:00 p.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
