Gerald M. Avery, age 81, of Glenwood died Monday night November 13, 2017, at Treutlen County Nursing Home of Soperton after an extended illness. Gerald was a native and lifelong resident of Wheeler County. He retired from construction and trucking and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many years.

Gerald is preceded in death by his wife, Collene (2004); and one brother, Fred Avery.

Gerald is survived by his two daughters, Wanda Clark (Phillip) of Kingsland, and Lori (Charlie) Hartley of Alamo; his brothers, Dennis Avery of Stone Mountain, L.P. Avery of Stuckey, and Chris Avery of Glenwood; his sisters, Grace Avery of Glenwood, Sue Gentry of Dublin, and Becky Blankenship of McRae; two grandchildren, Jessica Janis of Groton Connecticut, and Jamie Clark of Savannah; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Spencer; and his Australian Shepherd, Gypsy.

Funeral services for Mr. Gerald M. Avery will be held Thursday November 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Bob Corley and Reverend Nolan McDaniel officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday November 15, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Glenwood Chapel.

Flowers are accepted or memorial donations may be made in his name to Bethel Baptist Church.
