He was born one of seven children of the late Oscar Clay Herring and Martha Gray Herring and was a veteran of the US Navy having served on a Destroyer in Admiral Halsey's fleet in WWII. He worked for the Saline Plant at Wrightsville Beach, Sunny Point Military Terminal and was retired form the City of Wilmington Fire Dept. His greatest love and delight were his grandchildren, his wife and family. Aubrey died at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Life Care Center.
