Dr. Norman Abell, age 81, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 13, 1936 to Harry and Esther Abell.
Norm majored in Mechanical Engineering Technology at Oklahoma State University and Vocational Education at Auburn University where he received a doctorate degree. Norm was a college professor at Arkansas State University for 5 years, 5 years at Missouri State University, 20 years at Brevard Community College in Cocoa, Florida, and a dean of Mechanical Engineering at Macomb College in Michigan. He also spent a few summers in Cape Canaveral, Florida where he was contracted by NASA to test and study the heat resistant tiles for the space shuttle. Norm was an active member of the First Baptist Church here in Mountain Home for many years.
Norm is survived by his wife, Gladys Abell, of Lakeview, three daughters, Kristin Friend (Gregg) of Jacksonville, Florida, Bryn Howald (Brad) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Mardi Wilkerson (Kelly) of Huntsville, Alabama, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one sister, Evelyn Goodell, of South Lake Tahoe, California, and a brother, Harry “Bud ” Abell III, of Panama City, Florida. Norm is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Theodore “Ted ” Abell.
A visitation will be held at the Roller Funeral Home Chapel at 3 P.M., Wednesday, November 15, 2017 with a funeral service to follow at 4 P.M. with Pastor Kevin Moore officiating.
