Ferol Odessa Ballard, daughter of Willis Ballard, school superintendent in Iowa for more than 45 years, serving in Cambridge, Collins, Murray, Story City, Rockford, Panora and Huxley. He retired in 1935. Her mother was Minnie S. Thompson. She had two older brothers: Robert E., Lincoln, Neb. and Virgil W., San Francisco; and younger sister Mrs. Beulah L. White, Des Moines.

Ferol married on 29 Apr 1922 in Des Moines to Clarence F. Craven. They had two Adopted children who survive her:
1. Clarence Mitchell Craven of Marshalltown, born March 18, 1924 in Des Moines
2. Claryce Marilyn Uhl of Iowa City, born 26 May 1924 in Des Moines
By 1930 her husband was a musician for a dance orchestra in Shenandoah, Page County, IA.
They soon moved to Ames, where her widowed father lived with them until he remarried.
