Donald Leslie Burks, Sr., 74, of Amherst passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017, at his residence. He was the husband of Dorothy Thacker Burks. Born November 28, 1942, in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Harry Samuel Burks and the late Mary Campbell Burks.

Donald was a retired finisher for the Archer Creek Foundry and was a member of Coolwell Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his children Donald Leslie Burks, Jr. of Amherst and Joanne Marie Anderson of Amherst; two sisters, Thelma Hartless (Carl) of Amherst and Doris Burks of Amherst; and three grandchildren, Mark Robinson, Sara Robinson and Jenna Burks.

A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 13, 2017, at Amherst Cemetery with the Rev. Dwayne Martin officiating.

The family will receive friends 2-3:30 p.m., Sunday, November 12, 2017, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.

The family would like to express a special thank you to both Dr. Joseph Khoury and Centra Hospice nurse, Tina, for their care towards Donald.
