Ailing Farmer Dies in Car Found At Roadside

A retired Shelby County farmer with a history of heart ailment was found dead in his car on Rust Road just north of Fite Road at 2:30 yesterday afternoon.
Sheriff's deputies said Roy Sims Bensonof 7869 Locke-Cuba Road was found slumped in the front seat of his automobile, which was on the road's shoulder with the air conditioner running. Nitroglycerin tablets, found in a bottle in Mr. Benson's shirt pocket, were used for his ailment.
Mr. Benson, who was 66, was a lifelong resident of Shelby County. He was a veteran of World War II and a Member of Benjestown Church of Christ.
He leaves a brother, W. B. Benson, of the resident staff of the Shelby County Penal Farm; a half brother, Henry W. Archer of 7869 Locke-Cuba; three sisters, Mrs. G. C. Hanson of 1350 Busby Cove; Mrs. Martin Diepholz of 981 North Dunlap and Mrs. J. L. Cole of 4119 Macon; and a daughter, Mrs. Dale Lucal of Berkeley, California. Memphis Funeral Home is in charge.
