G B Massa has passed away.
A dinner was prepared on Memorial Day to celebrate his 77th birthday. Following the dinner, Mr Massa and several others became ill, caused no doubt from ptomaine poisoning. He continued to grow worse and became critically ill and died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
His daughter, Mrs H L North, with whom he made his home, was away at the time of his death. She and her husband were attending the World's Fair in Chicago; when notified, they returned immediately to Hooker, arriving Sunday evening.
Mr Massa had been a resident of Hooker for a number of years. Services were held at the Baptist church Monday afternoon.
Green Baker Massa was born in Putnam county, Tennessee May 30, 1857 and died in Hooker, Okla June 2, 1934.
He married Sarah Mitchell August 20, 1877. They had 9 children; 4 boys and 5 girls. Sarah died June 23, 1896.
In September, 1900 he married Lizzie Farley. They had one child, Mrs Winnie North of Hooker. Mrs Massa died June 18, 1918.
Mr Massa joined the Baptist church at Boiling Springs, Tn. He left Tennessee in 1905 to Haviland, Kansas where he lived about 9 years, after which he moved to Hooker.
He leaves 3 brothers, 3 half-brothers, 2 sisters, one half-sister, 7 children, 6 of whom live in or near Hooker and one in Haviland, Ks; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren.
Mr Massa was a half-brother to Norman, Oakley and Dillard Massa of Cookeville. He was the father of Verdie Massa, who spent the last 2 winters here in Cookeville.
