Marion "Virginia" (Sherrod) Lemmons was born on September 15, 1920 in Robertson County, Tennessee, the daughter of Dewy Connell "Bruce" Sherrod (1897-1976) and his 1st wife Gladys T (Hunter) Sherrod (ca 1900-ca 1992). [Bruce died in California, while Gladys died in Tennessee.]
Virginia was married about 1942 to Samuel Granville "Bill" Lemmons (1909-1998), the son of Samuel Lemmons (1867-1959) and Mary F (Brakefield) Lemmons (1872-1960). She was a homemaker, co-owner and bookkeeper for Lemmons Gulf Service Station in Cedar Hill.
She was a longtime member of Cedar Hill United Methodist Church, but after moving to New Market to be near her family, she joined New Market United Methodist Church. She was a member of the FCE at both Cedar Hill and New Market and participated in activities at the New Market Senior Citizen Center. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends.
A resident of New Market and formerly of Cedar Hill, Virginia was 97 years old when she passed away on October 29, 2017 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and by her brother William C "Billy" Sherrod (1917-1945). Survivors included a married son, married daughter, seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at Cedar Hill United Methodist Church, and burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
