During the Civil War, Daniel Harris enlisted in Lawrenceville as a private in Co. C, 10th Georgia Cavalry, a State Guards unit. He enlisted on August 1, 1863, but he was mustered out on January 31, 1864, apparently for illness.
In its January 7th issue, the local newspaper, the Gwinnett Herald, noted that Daniel Harris as well as his father-in-law, B. H. Lamkin, were moving to town. It is not known why Daniel died at 41 years of age later that year.
