Floyd and his wife Margaret were at home with their daughter Nancy, 22, around 10 pm when Nancy's estranged husband came in the front door and began shooting. He shot Floyd in the head with a shotgun, then shot his mother-in-law in the chest and his own wife in the abdomen. He then left the house, and Nancy made a phone call for help. Unfortunately, she died before reaching the hospital.
Nancy had left her husband and had filed for divorce. Her husband wanted to reconcile but she wouldn't. She had been living with her parents. Floyd's son-in-law was tried and found guilty of 1st degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison. He was never tried for the other two murders. By 1980, Richard was out of prison and married a 25-year-old security guard. He served less than 10 years for shooting three people dead in cold blood. He died in 1990, at the age of 49.
