There will be a funeral service on Friday, October 17, at 10:00am, at the Newkirk Reformed Church in rural Hospers. The Rev. David Powers will officiate. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

John was born on March 23, 1932, at Carnes, the son of Bert and Jennie (Geurink) Aberson. He was raised in Carnes, where he attended the Nassau #5 school.

On September 4, 1957, he married Gertrude De Ruyter in Rock Valley. They were members of the Newkirk Reformed Church. His family’s faith was very important to him, and he prayed they would all have a personal relationship with the Lord.

He was in the United States Army and lived in Bellflower, California, for four months before moving back to Iowa. For a short time, he did construction work, but he was a farmer the rest of his life. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, playing guitar, restoring cars and tractors, traveling, and volunteering for Justice for All. He was a member of the Reuter American Legion Post in Hospers, the Capel Township Charity, the North American Fishing Club, and the National Rifle Association.
