Hetty Meriah Deputy Knowlton, was born to Joshua Deputy (1793-1870) and his first wife, Grace Beauchamp Deputy (1784-1814) in Sussex County, Delaware. Hetty later moved to Jefferson County, Indiana with her parents, where her mother Grace died in 1814.

Hetty was married 31 Mar1825 in Jefferson County, Indiana to Jesse S Nowlton (1801-1861).

About 1840, Hetty and Jesse moved to Arkansas, the same time her half-brother, Dr Joseph Deputy moved there.

Hetty is last found in the 1850 United States Census for St Francis County, Arkansas, not far from brother Dr Joseph Deputy.

Hetty and Jesse had children; William R, Joshua S, and Jesse J , were born in Indiana, and Elizabeth Jane, who was born in Arkansas. Sons, William and Joshua became circuit preachers.

Hetty's husband Jesse, a preacher, is found without her, in the 1860 United States Census for St Francis, Arkansas. In 1870 he is found living with their son William, in St Francis County Arkansas.

In the 1860 United States Census for Jefferson County, Indiana, Hetty's son, Jesse J Knowlton (1835-1887), was then living with his paternal grandfather, Joshua Deputy (1793-1870), and Uncle James W Deputy.
