He attended school in Hawarden and served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Ed married Marie Vonherheide on June 16-1936 at West Point. They moved to Omaha in 1941, where Ed worked as a projectionist and manager at the Berkeley Theater.
He became a member of the IBEW local #22 of Omaha in 1946. He was a Journeyman Electrician until his retirement in 1976, at which time they moved to Herman then on to Blair in 1992.
