Eula Mae Martin, 88, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, November 1, 2017 at Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City.
 
Born May 7, 1929 in Arkansas City, Kansas, she was the daughter of Ola and Anna Mae Bair.  She was raised and received her early education in Arkansas City before her family moved to Dexter.  After graduating high school in Burden, Eula taught school at Mount Vernon until 1948. 
 
She was united in marriage to Ray Harold Martin on April 25, 1948 at the Burden Baptist Church.  The couple farmed near Latham from 1951 to 1955 when they moved to Maple City and farmed for a short time.  They ran Martin’s General Store and Eula became Postmaster in Maple City.  In 1965 they moved back to the family farm in Dexter and Eula continued as Postmaster in Maple City and later became Postmaster in Dexter, retiring in the mid 1990’s.  Ray preceded her in death on January 4, 2004.
 
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter as well as a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She was an avid quilter and enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time with her family.  Eula also enjoyed being a 4H Leader, teaching sewing, cooking and canning.

Her daughters:  Kathleen Beltz and husband, Rick of Ruther Glen, VA; Denise Zimmerman and husband, Gary of London, OH;
Her sisters:  Vivian Shaver of Douglass; Wanda Mackey of Burden;
Her sisters-in-law:  Sarah Bair of Burden; Eleanor Bair of Burden;
Her grandchildren:  Lana Campbell, Alyssa Pylant, Jennifer Bletz-Quick, Christopher Beltz, Scott Beltz, Andrea Jacobs, Abby Johnson, Ashley Ryel, Katecee Bowman, Jason, Brandon, Thomas and Mark Zimmerman, Lucas Martin, Katlyn Volney; and
Her great grandchildren:  Jessica Campbell, Taylor Pylant, Emma Pylant, Austin Pylant, Gabrianna Bowman, Maelynn Bowman, Brittney Gilbert, Aidan Jacobs, Anabel Jacobs, Keaton Johnson, Charlee Johnson, Piper Ryel, Preston Ryel, Evan Zimmerman and Jason Zimmerman.
 
In addition to her parents and husband, Eula was preceded in death by a great grandson, Colin Lee Campbell.
 
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 6, 2017 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.  Interment will follow at Maple City Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6.  The family will greet visitors that afternoon.
 
Memorials have been established in Eula’s name for the Dexter Senior Citizens Center and for First Baptist Church of Dexter.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
