Son of Dr. Thomas J. Sneed Sr. and Nancy Overall Sneed.

Horace was named for his mother's brother, Horace A. Overall, and probably for his mother's father, Abe Overall. He seems to have gone by his initials, A.W.H., as he is referred to this way on both the 1850 census and his marriage record.

1915 - This reference to a Dr. Horace Sneed was probably to A.W. Horace Sneed, not Horace J. Sneed, his son, as it also mentions A.W. Horace's father Jefferson Sneed (Sr.) and younger brother T.J. Sneed (Jr.):
