Joe Allen passed this life on Saturday, October 28, 2017 after a year long battle with cancer. He was born in Bono, Texas in Johnson County to W.A. and Belle Allen in 1934. He met the love of his life, Christine Hutto in Cleburne, Texas and courted her for four years until they married in her uncle's living room in August 1953. He soon went to work for his Father-in-law, Ed Hutto at Hutto Brothers Paint and Body Shop in Cleburne. In 1960, he moved his family to Ft. Worth to begin his career as an insurance adjuster for Allstate Insurance Company. In 1962 the family moved to Burleson where they lived until 1974. Joe and Christine decided to move to Hurst, Texas since Allstate had moved their offices to Los Colinas. Joe and Christine moved to Colleyville 1988 where they had built
their dream home. Joe retired from Allstate after 30 plus years of devoted service. In 2003 they decided to down-size and moved back to Hurst. In 2014 they moved to assisted living at Whitley Place in Keller where the staff spoiled them both. Joe took over the garden and gazebo area and planted lots of roses and other flowering plants. But his gardening days came to an end when he was diagnosed with cancer. He leaves a legacy of a life well-lived.
Joe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Christine and four children: Daughter, Rhonda Pledger and husband Jimmy of N Richland Hills, Son, Russell Allen and wife Susan of McKinney, Daughter, Terri Rutledge and husband Duane of N Richland Hills and Son, Michael Allen and wife Judy of Ft Worth. Joe was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Jeremy and wife Lindsey Pledger, Wes and wife Amanda Pledger, James and wife Ashley Pledger, Dustin and wife Lauren Allen, Christin Allen and Audrey Allen, Chaz and wife Audra Rutledge and Spencer Rutledge and step-grandsons, Jon and Kenny Rutledge. Joe was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren: Madison, Annika, Brynann, Cade and Tanner Allen. Walker, Kinley, Lila, Rylee, William and Mallory Pledger and Ava and Emma Rutledge.
Joe's only surviving sibling, is his sister Helen and husband James Henslee of Cleburne, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Murray, Chester, and Howard Allen, Sisters Rachel Barnett and Dorothy Ragsdale. And he had numerous nieces and nephew.
A celebration of his life will Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 2:00 at the College Hill church of Christ in N Richland Hills with Robert Waller officating. Visitation at 1:00, an hour before the service. Burial will be at Bluebonnet Hills in Colleyville following the service.
