MIDLOTHIAN, Ill. — Aaron Kenneth Matney, 43, moved onto a place without pain or suffering Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017. Battling cancer for the last eight years, he fought long and hard, never complaining and always kept a positive attitude. His loving patience, humor and generosity will live forever in the lives that he touched. He died as he lived, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born July 19, 1974, in Salina, Kan., to Peggy (Zweifel) Martin and Kenneth Matney.

He graduated from Salina High School Central, and studied computer science at Illinois Institute of Technology and City Colleges of Chicago. He worked for Sam’s Club as an assistant manager in the Chicago area. He enjoyed “Magic The Gathering” as a player, judge and mentor. Aaron has chosen to donate his body to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for reseach.

He is survived by his parents, Peggy (Zweifel) Martin (Doug), of Nixa, Mo., and Kenneth Matney (Cathy), of Joplin, Mo.; sister, Gina Taylor (Mike), of Carl Junction, Mo.; other siblings, Keisha Voth (David), of Omaha, Neb., Lisa Brown (Rhett), of Spokane Valley, Wash., Grant Martin (Amie), of Houston, and Jennifer Schaffner (Dan), of Byfield, Mass.; nieces and nephews, Kenley and Caleb Taylor, Sarah and Jacob Overkamp, Hannah and Grace Voth, Benjamin Martin, Noah and Ellie Brown and Ian and Graham Schaffner; special families, Jason and Amanda, Andrew, Colin Bencik of Midlothian, Ill., and Emili and Dan Hardin, Micaela, Emiliana, Sirrena Jackson, of Chicago; and many relatives and friends.

Aaron was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Montez Matney, Bob and Bernice Zweifel, and Frank and Harriett Martin.

Celebration of Life will be from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Eagles Lodge in Salina. A second memorial for Aaron will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Waldo Community Center, Waldo, Kan.
