Walter R. Sears, 84, formerly of Jansen, NE, passed away October 28, 2017 in Salina, KS. He was born June 27, 1933 to Garner & Augusta E. (Hagedorn) Sears at Tryon, OK. Walter was an Army Veteran, and served in Korea.

He is survived by close friend Debbie Logan and her children Jessica DeLay and Christopher Logan and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents and wife Alice Sears and son Gregory Sears.

Services will be Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 401 Arrowhead Road, Bremen, KS, with Pastor Aaron Fenker officiating. Memorials will go to the Bremen Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation and viewing 1 hour before the service at the church. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Walter Ray Sears 84 of Salina, KS. passed away at his home in Salina on Saturday October 28, 2017 with his dear friend Debbie Logan & her daughter Jessica DeLay at his side. He had been on hospice for about 3 months.

He was born June 27, 1933 at Tryon, Oklahoma to Garner Ines & Augusta Emelia (Hagedorn) Sears. He lived in Atchison, KS. area before moving to Odell, NE.

He graduated from Odell high school in 1951, where he met Alice Rengstorf, whom he married on February 28, 1954.

He was a Army Veteran & served 2 years in Korea. Walt was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jansen, NE. for many years. Walt had a strong Christian faith and loved the Lord.

Walt & Alice hosted many foster children. He worked for the railroad for 2 years after high school & then went to work for Smittys in Jansen for 40 years as a salesman. He enjoyed traveling, seeking new adventures, hunting, fishing, walking & meeting new people. He never knew a stranger.

Survivors are Dear friend: Debbie Logan of 20 years, Jessica DeLay & Dalton Bledsoe, Chris & Amy Logan all of Salina, KS. Niece: Susan (Walt’s God daughter) & Stuart Stine of Slidell, LA., Nephews: Gary & Heather Sears of Indiana, Bud & Mary Sears of Vancouver, Wash., Leo Sears of ILL., Eddie & Karen Sears of Florida, Mike & Judy Pyle of TX.

Preceded in death by his Wife Alice (Rengstorf) Sears & his son Gregory Sears, who passed away shortly after birth.
