Billy Hugh Abernathy, 85, formerly of Belmont, was a son to the late Fitz Hugh Abernathy and Edith Bynum Abernathy. He was predeceased by his brother, Floyd "Bob" Abernathy; sisters, Nellie Sadler and Ruby Helderman.
Billy proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was a long-time and active member of South Point Baptist Church where he served in many areas of ministry. He was also active with Royal Ambassadors and Belles & Beaus. Billy was an avid gardener, loved to travel and had a great sense of humor.
Interment in Evergreen -"A Quiet Place" with military honors by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
