She was born November 12, 1931, near Grantsville in the community of Bull River. She was the daughter of William M. and Sarah Bitha (Brown) Yoak. She was the youngest of 7 brothers and sisters including Pearl (Welch), Geraldine (Stump), Johnson, Glady Mae (9-month old infant), Helen (Haney-Godby), and Arvin, who all preceded her in death. Her sister-in-law, Jean Yoak Miller, survives her.
Willa Lea was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Donald Burl Kelley, who passed away exactly 1 year previously.
She is survived by their 2 children, Kathy (Lyle) Kerby of Grantsville, and Ron (Nancy) Kelley of Mocksville, NC. Also surviving are 4 grandchilden, Gina Schroeder, Scott Kelley, Chris Kerby, and Jennifer Messerly, as well as 10 great-grandchildren, who all lovingly called her “Granny.” She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Willa Lea very much.
After high school, Willa Lea attended Beauty School and later operated her own beauty shop for over 40 years.
She was a long-time member of the Church of God. She was devoted to her family & friends, who will miss her famous pecan and blueberry pies.
Per her request, a simple service will be held Wednesday, November 1 at 12-noon at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 3757 North Calhoun Highway (Rt 16-N), Grantsville, WV 26147, officiated by John Havir. A gathering of all friends and family will be held at the church fellowship hall after the service.
