Mrs. Dorothy Mayfield Kennedy was received into her Heavenly home on October 25, 2017. She passed from this life at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS.

Mrs. Kennedy was born to Wilson and Lillie Bishop Mayfield on April 9, 1932, in Simpson County.

While growing up in Simpson County, Dorothy made a profession of faith at Rose Hill and was later baptized in a creek. Later at FBC in Magee, she taught two-year-olds for many years. After she joined an adult Sunday School class, she had a strong calling to start a class for handicapped children, as they were not then included in any program. She went to Ridgecrest for training and was very successful in organizing and teaching this group for about 10 years. This was a spiritual highlight of her life. She also sang in the choir and played handbells at FBC.

After her marriage to Glenn Kennedy [sic], she joined the Shady Grove Church of God and again taught two-year-olds and was a choir member.

Mrs. Kennedy received her education from Mize School, Draughn's Business College, and had a degree in cosmetology from Buckley's Beauty School in Prentiss.

She opened the City Beauty Shop in Magee in 1960 and worked to provide quality service and loving care for her clients for about 40 years. In 1973, her father built a new shop for her, that being the last carpentry work he did.

A few minutes in Mrs. Kennedy's presence would let people know that she was a devout Christian. Art and decorations that adorned her shop attested to her Christian witness. It was absolutely no place for gossip!

Mrs. Kennedy enjoyed traveling, and her most memorable trip was to Israel where she was baptized in the Jordan River.

In 1989, she remarried. A miracle sent Glenn Kennedy her way, a Mize classmate she had not seen in over 40 years.

Mrs. Kennedy is preceded in death by her parents, Wilson and Lillie Mayfield; a brother, J.L. Mayfield (Doris) and sister, Lavone Mayfield O'Neal (Elmer). She is survived by sons, Charlie Everett (Melinda) of Madison; Michael Everett (Lisa) of Magee; grandsons, Joey Everett (Julie) of Nashville, TN, Stephen Everett of Madison, MS, Chadwick Everett (Dymin) of Madison, Seth Everett (Christy) of Gluckstadt, MS and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation for friends will be Sunday, October 29, 2017, at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Mize. Rev. David Williams and Rev. Barry Warren will officiate.

Arrangements entrusted to Tutor Funeral Home of Magee.
