Episcopal Archbishop of Armagh and Lord Primate of All Ireland. He served in this position from 1911, succeeding William Alexander, until his death. The son of an Episcopal minister, he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Trinity College, Dublin in 1872, his Master of Arts Degree in 1875, and Bachelor of Divinity and Doctor of Divinity Degrees in 1888. He began his ministerial career at St. Stephen, Belfast in 1876 and served at other churches until he was elected Bishop of Ossory, Ferns and Leighlin (1897 until 1907), followed by Bishop of Down, Connor and Dromore (1907 until 1911). He died at the Archbishop's Palace at the age of 67 and was succeeded by Charles D'Arcy.
