Gloria Ruth Coleman Baker, 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully in her home October 26, 2017. She was under the care of Encompass Hospice and The Cloudnine Agency.

Gloria was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 12, 1928, to Charles Coleman and Irene Schofield Coleman, the ninth of 10 children. She grew up in Salt Lake City where she graduated from Granite High School in 1946. She continued her education at the University of Utah, earning a degree in Elementary Education.

Gloria met her future husband, Drostan Hatch Baker, during their teen years. They were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on June 15, 1951. While Gloria taught school, Drostan completed his education and medical school training. In 1957 they moved their growing family to Idaho Falls where Dr. Drostan H. Baker practiced medicine for 37 years before his death in 1994. Gloria missed him every single day of the 23 years she lived without him.

Gloria’s most fulfilling roles were that of wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Drostan created a beautiful home where they raised one daughter and four sons, who in turn gave them 27 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren, so far.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: daughter, Cecile (Kay) Christensen; sons: D. Gregg (Barbara), Jeff (Marcell), Dwight (Lorraine), and Wallace (Amy) Baker, all of Idaho Falls; and a special niece, Laura (Jay) Child of Idaho Falls.

Known for her desire to serve, Gloria gave countless hours to the organizations with which she was involved: the Idaho Falls Music Club, Idaho Falls Medical Auxiliary, IF Choralaires, the Bonneville County Republican Women, LDS Social Services, and others.

Gloria loved music and made sure her children were given the opportunity to develop their own musical talents. As a grandmother, she spent many afternoons giving piano and singing lessons to her beloved grandchildren, some of whom came mostly for the treats offered afterward.

A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gloria had many church callings throughout her life. She served in the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society organizations. She also served as Stake Relief Society President as well as a temple worker in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Sandcreek LDS First Ward Building, 885 South Boulevard. The family will hold a visitation the night before, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., November 10, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street. Gloria will be in buried in the Fielding Memorial Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
