Born to Ben and Hattie Cornelius, Val had six siblings. She outlived sisters Eula and Johnny, as well as their younger brothers -- Ben, George, Holly, and Jack.

Val was married for 54 years to Marvin Tupper who died in 1989. They moved from Oklahoma in 1940. After living in a couple of house rentals in Palo Alto, they bought their Barron Park home, where Val resided for 68 years.

Readily identifiable as the matriarch, Val was a housewife and mother who helped her husband succeed in his carpentry career. She also worked outside the home, most notably as a cafeteria supervisor in the Palo Alto school district.

Nobody made a better apple pie. Val loved gardening. She was active in the Presbyterian church for many years.

Val Tupper is survived by her three children -- Darla Tupper, Marvina Lepianka, and David Tupper; by her two grandchildren -- Julie Lepianka and Cathy Castro; by her great-grandchildren -- Nicholas Gutierrez and John Ferranti; and many other relatives and friends. Her second and fourth children -- Perry and Mary – died from illness as toddlers. Val's grandson Kirk passed away a year before she did.
