HARRISBURG - The Rev. G.E. Coultas, 88, of Harrisburg passed away at 12:05 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016, at his residence.
G.E. was born on January 31, 1928, in Winchester to the late Hugh and Leta (Wright) Coultas. He married Mildred "Millie" Coultas and she preceded him in death on December 21, 2010. G.E. was a minister for 60 years and was the chaplin at Harrisburg Medical Center. He was the former pastor of Buena Vista Community Church, where he pastored for 36 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran, the founding president of the board for the 4C's, past president of the Kiwanis Club, member of the Ministerial Alliance, speaker at the National Day of Prayer events, an evangelist and a missionary to South America. He also did the Echos from Calvary radio program.
Surviving family members include daughter Linda Sue Sweezer and her husband, Darrell, of Burlington, Iowa; daughter Rita Bilbo of Poplarville, Mississippi; daughter Judy Nifong and her husband, Ronnie, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; son Robert E. Coultas and his wife, Lori, of Stafford, Virginia; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Ruth Coultas of Texas; son-in-law David Ducommon of West Salem, Illinois; sister Allene Coultas of Jacksonville, Illinois; brother Raymond Coultas and his wife, Gladdie, of Florida; brother Carl Coultas and his wife, Ruth, of Jacksonville, Illinois; and special friend Betty Mizikus of Harrisburg.
G.E. was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Joy Ducommon; a son, the Rev. Dr. G. Dean Coultas; and a sister, Fern Clinton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Gary Clark will officiate and will be assisted by the Rev. David Ducommon. Burial will follow at Sunset Garden Cemetery. Veterans rites will be conducted by the Harrisburg & Carrier Mills American Legion, the VFW and the Navy. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at Reed Funeral Chapel.
