Charles Henry Buley, Jr., age 87 of Mankato, MN died peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2017, at Oaklawn Health Care Center, Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2017, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mankato with Rev. John Kunz, officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and will continue one hour before service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato – Hospice, Parkinson’s Association, or the donor’s choice.

Charles was born September 15, 1930, to Charles Henry and Irene (Chevalier) Buley, Sr. in Henderson, MN. He attended school in Henderson and graduated from Henderson High School. Charlie served his country in the United States Army from 1948-1952, in Washington, DC. After the Army, he attended Mankato Business College and graduated with a senior accounting degree. He went to work for Hallett Construction Company in St. Peter in 1954. Charles was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Catherine O’Brien on October 22, 1955, in Belle Plaine, MN. Charlie’s passions in life were his family, church, and volunteering. Charles worked for Hallett Construction in St. Peter, MN for 43 years as an accountant and credit manager. When Hallett’s was bought by the Rasmussen Group he went to work for the new company and he and Mary moved to Ankeny, Iowa. He was a member of the Iowa Chapter of National Association of Credit Management and served a term as President. Upon retirement Charlie and Mary moved to Mankato, MN. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus serving as Grand Knight, Recorder, Financial Secretary, District Deputy, 4th Degree Knight, and member of the Minnesota State KC Student Loan Board. Charlie served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteer at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. Charlie volunteered at Habitat for Humanity in Mankato to help build homes for 9 years and at Habitat’s ReStore in Mankato for 6 years. Habitat for Humanity of South Central, MN honored Charlie with the 2014 Outstanding Leadership Award. He was also honored for his Habitat work by Council of Local Organization for Volunteer Enhancement (CLOVE) in Mankato in 2014. Charlie enjoyed golfing, served on the Shoreland Country Club Board, fishing, playing cards, traveling, reading and singing in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of St. Peter, MN Polka Mass Choir, He and Mary were married for 61 years.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine of Mankato; his children, Mary Therese Buley (Takashi Tsuchiya) of Norwalk, CT, Michael Buley (Kathy Clobes and sons, Chad, Tom, and John), Patrick (Debra) Buley of Mankato, Ann (Bruce) Hough of Silverthorne, CO, Colleen Buley of Minneapolis, Dr. Catherine Buley (Jerry Post) of Juneau, AK; seven grandchildren, Chelsey (Jay) Hoffmann, Riley Buley, Zoe Hough, Clayton Hough, Noatak Post, Shea Post, Georgia Post and one great-grandchild, Everett Hoffmann; sister, Therese (Tom) O’Brien of Belle Plaine; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kevin O’Brien of Belle Plaine, Geraldine Latterell of Foley, Keiran (Diane) O’Brien of Alexandria, Joe (Bernice) O’Brien of Jordan, Colleen (Gene) Sathre of Hawaii, Mary Jane O’Brien, and Linda O’Brien; many nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack (Donna) O’Brien, Marilyn O’Brien, Gerald (Fran) O’Brien, Francis O’Brien, Bill O’Brien, Donald O’Brien, Finton O’Brien, Joe Latterell, and infant, Mary Therese O’Brien.
