GREENWOOD – Mrs. Wm. Rairdon received a telegram this week announcing the death in Iowa of Mrs. Susan Brinton [sic], who previous to the last ten years was a resident of this community for forty years, and was known by all the old settlers for her many kind acts.

Notes: Susan was living in Pleasant Twp, Johnson Co IN on the 1870 census and was already a widow. She was 62. Living with her were Wm Gordon 24, Mary Gordon 21 and Lora Gordon 3 months.
On the 1880 Census Susan, 71, born in Ohio, was living with her son-in-law, William Downey, in Poweshiek, Jasper Co Iowa. Her son-in-law was a widower and had 4 young children: Frank 10; Mary 8; Maggie 4; and Alice 2.
