Margaret Juanita Stiles Walsh, 91, passed away in Round Rock on December 15, 2006 surrounded by her family. She was born January 12, 1915 in Taylor, Texas to Wilburn Dean Stiles and Katie Conoley Stiles. Juanita spent her childhood years in Taylor, where her father was a Williamson County Commissioner and her mother an educator, music teacher, and writer. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1933. After attending the University of Texas for two years, she worked for Southern Union Gas Company as a bookkeeper until marrying Edward Walsh, Jr. of Round Rock on July 27, 1940. While Edward served in Europe during World War II, Juanita worked at the Round Rock White Lime Company, a family business owned by the Walshs. After the war, she helped her husband develop and operate businesses in Round Rock, Austin, and Luling. She raised two sons while supporting her husband as Mayor of Round Rock during the right-of-way negotiations for the construction of Interstate 35. Juanita remained a widow after her husband's death in 1973, living in the house they built at 409 West Liberty just before the attack on Pearl Harbor. She remained a strength to her loved ones in their private and public lives, helping her oldest son win the race for District Attorney of Williamson County in 1976. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Round Rock all of her adult life, serving as Treasurer of the Administrative Board, an officer in the United Methodist Women, and as church organist. She was recognized as a giving, talented, yet modest woman with remarkable energy and willpower. Far into her 80's she cared for neighbors and friends who were far younger than she. During catastrophic times in her immediate family she became surrogate mother to some of her grandchildren and a powerful role model for all. Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, six sisters and two brothers. She is survived by: sons Christopher and Edward III and his wife Lori of Round Rock; sister-in-law Dorothy Walsh Munson of Austin; grandchildren D'Liza Stockman of De Leon, and Kristopher, Jessica, Jamie, Zachary, Kati, Cameron, and Connor Walsh of Round Rock; and great grandchildren Chloe, Isabel, and Will.
