Cal Verna “Cal” Wilfahrt, 88, of New Ulm died Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Wednesday, November 5, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass.

Visitation will be 4 – 8 PM Tuesday and 7:30 – 10:30 AM Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

The Christian Mothers Society and the National Catholic Society of Foresters will pray a combined rosary at 4 PM Tuesday at the Cathedral.

Cal is survived by her husband, Eldor of New Ulm; children, Rebecca Forstie (Dwight) of North Dighton, MA, Toni Grucky (Larry) of Phoenix, AZ, Tim Wilfahrt (Lois) of St. Peter, Therese Tendick of Scottsdale, AZ and Helene Bressler of Sunnyvale, CA; grandchildren, Ann Forstie, Clare Forstie, Adam Forstie, Chad Grucky, Tara Robinson, Russ Tendick, Laura Effern, Tyler Wilfahrt and Kara Talledge; great-grandchildren, Brenner and Kolton Robinson; sisters-in-law, Helen Volz and Jean Volz; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Justine Palmer, Winifred Brandel and Flavia Volz; and by her brothers, Tony, Matt, Andy, Lawrence, George, Linus, Fred, Sylvester and Robert Volz.

Cal Verna Barbara Volz was born in New Ulm on July 28, 1926, the youngest of John and Helena (Walser) Volz. She grew up in West Newton Township, Nicollet County. Cal attended St. George Grade School and graduated from Holy Trinity High School in New Ulm in 1944. On May 7, 1949 she married Eldor Wilfahrt at St. George Catholic Church. They resided in New Ulm all their entire married life.

She is a member of Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the Christian Mother’s Society and a charter member of St. Cecilia Court of the National Catholic Society of Foresters. For many years she served on the Board of Directors of the Sister Cities Commission of the City of New Ulm and from 1987 to 1990 she served on the Board of Trustees of the Brown County Historical Society. Cal was a member of the Father Alexander Berghold Memorial Committee from its inception to the completion of the Loretto Park Memorial.

She had many interests and hobbies including family ancestry, quilting, sewing, embroidery, travel and solving crossword puzzles.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Way of the Cross or the Father Alexander Berghold Memorial.
