Boise musician and educator son of JS & Nina Best, survived by wife Katherine, daughters Karen Clark, Mary Nebel, Margaret Wells, grandchildren Catherine Bingle, Eric Nebel & Daniel wells. Preceded in death by brother James and his parents. Jack attended Idaho State University, University of Idaho, Masters from University of Northern Colorado in music composition and cello performance. Jack played a major role in the development of the music program at Boise Junior College to Boise State University teaching from 1947 to 1983. He conducted the Boise College Symphony and the BJC band. He taught cello and string bass, college and privately during his retirement. He and Katherine were church musicians, she played piano he played cello at Boise Ave. Presbyterian and All Saints Episcopal church. He was the music director for Boise Music Week stage production of "My Fair Lady" and "Carousel". Retirement brought travel and watercolor painting. He had a lifelong commitment to social justice and this was reflected in his volunteer service to several organizations. Donations to Habitat for Humanity, American Diabetes Ass. or the John Best Orchestral string Scholarship at Boise State University. Memorial Service Saint Michael's Cathedral, Boise 26 April, 2008
