Martin A. Hancharik, 66, of 407 Dryden Road, died Wednesday, February 6, 1991 at Tompkins Community Hospital.

He was born in Barnesboro, Pennsylvania, son of the late Michael and Anna Mehal Hancharik.

He owned and operated Hi-Speed Laundry in Collegetown for twenty-six years. He managed Colonial Cleaners from 1949 to 1954. He was very active in both baseball and softball in the area for many years. He played in the City Baseball League for Morse Industries and pitched and played first base under Coach Ted Thoren for the Ithaca Semi Pro College All Stars. He was involved in the City Mens Softball League as both player and coach and in the Ithaca Women's Softball League and the Cinderella Softball League as a coach.

Marty was a member, Past Exalted Ruler and a Trustee of Ithaca Elks Lodge No. 636. In 1990 the Elks renamed their Wednesday Night Golf League, ''The Marty Hancharik Golf League’’ and granted him an honorary life membership. He was alsa a member and past treasurer of No. 9 Fire Company, Volunteer Firennan. A member of the Veteran Fireman and a member and usher at Immaculate Conception Church. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He was a Naval Veteran Of World War II serving with the 74th Naval Battalion in the Pacific Theatre and the Invasion of Tarawa, Kwajalien and Okinawa.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Leonardo Hancharik of Ithaca. His daughters Carol Borgeson and Linda Muskelley, both of Ft. Myers, Florida. His granddaughter, Kristen Leigh Borgeson. A sister, Genevieve Snyder of Gaylord, Michigan and his brother. Francis Hancharik Of Ithaca. He is also survived by Several brothers-in-law, Sisters-in-lav, nieces, nephews and cousins.
