Born December 7, 1923 at Lamont (Grant County), Arkansas, she was a daughter of Harp E. Blackerby and Ella Clement Blackerby.
She was a graduate of Grapevine High School.
Virginia was a very kind, loving, and generous mother who loved cooking, shopping, and visiting with family and friends.
During her early working career, she was employed by Southwestern Bell and later Illinois Tool Works.
She was a lifelong member of Good Faith Carr United Methodist Church.
Her husband of 50 years, Louis Stewart; her parents; three brothers, Martin Blackerby, Thurman Blackerby, and Laurens Blackerby; and two sisters, Jewel Swilling and Ruby Lee Ashcraft, all preceded her in death.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Judy Walden and husband Steve; grandchildren, Eric Walden and Lauren Strachota; great-grandchildren, William Strachota and Madeline Bradley, all of Pine Bluff; a sister, Odessa Foote of Hot Springs; along with many nieces and nephews who cherish her memory.
We will always be grateful for the wonderful and blessed care that Mother received from her devoted caregivers, Mildred Brashears, Dorothy Wrinkle, Sue Reed, and Darlene Moss. The love and compassion that they gave Mom and our family will never be forgotten. We would also like to thank Hospice Angels for their love and compassion throughout Mom’s final days.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 24, 2017, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel.
The service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert Lyons officiating.
