Ruth Annette Petty
December 23, 1925 - October 14, 2017

Ruth Annette Wessels Petty was born on December 23, 1925 in West Point, TX to German immigrant parents John and Mione Wessels and passed into Heaven on October 14, 2017. She married her high school sweetheart Robert Allen Petty and they settled in Austin.

Ruth was a pioneer of the Bucket List long before anyone had ever heard of such a thing. She attended a Rose Bowl Parade, Kentucky Derby, Indianapolis 500 Race, New Year’s Eve at Times Square, and many more notable events and cities. Ruth drove across the USA in the Great American Race in her 1927 Chrysler convertible and Route 66 in her 1956 T-Bird. She was the proud owner of numerous collectible antique cars and involved in many classic car clubs.

As one of the founders and charter members of the Tuesday Nighters Club in Austin, she organized monthly meetings and trips over the years and the club just celebrated their 70 year anniversary.

Following the death of her 13-year-old daughter Robin in 1963, Ruth opened a party shop on South Lamar Blvd to honor Robin and help her deal with her grief. She owned Robin’s Party Shop for more than 45 years before selling it and retiring.

Ruth is survived by her daughter and son in law, Donna and Gerald Hill of San Antonio, her daughter Myrna Petty of Austin, and son and daughter in law, Skip and Susan Petty of Austin, and brother and sister in law Gene and Ruth Wessels of West Point TX. She was always extremely proud of her grandchildren Cari Hill Goodyear (Gary), Julie Hill Turner (Robby), Brad Lind (Marcy), Christie Petty Vaughn (Jeff) and Trey Petty. She is also survived by great grandchildren Bailey and Libby Goodyear, Garett and McCann Turner, Kaylee and Brady Lind, Garrison and Megan Vaughn. She was preceded in death by daughter Robin Sue Petty, former husband Bob Petty, her parents John and Mione Wessels and her sister Laura Wessels Havemann.

Special thanks to Barbara Browne and Dee Bryant of Texas Home Health and Hospice Care.
