Carmen Edward Wright Jr. was born on August 21, 1935 to Carmen Edward Sr. and Elsie L. (Brooks) Wright in Asheville, North Carolina. He passed away on October 17, 2017 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 26 days. Carmen grew up and attended school in Hampton, Virginia and graduated from Hampton High School in 1954. After high school he joined and was a proud member of the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean War. He moved to Oklahoma and in 1981, Carmen attended Northeastern State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in both criminal justice and social work. Carmen had a vast love of avionics. He always dreamed of becoming a pilot and he followed that dream and obtained his pilot’s license in the mid 90’s. His careers included corrections officer, social worker and case manager while employed by the State of Oklahoma as well as staff member and house parent at Whitaker State Children’s Home. He was an active member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Pryor. Carmen enjoyed wood working, hunting, fishing, shooting and being outdoors. More than anything he loved his family and was always there to offer his encouragement. “This builds character” and “this too shall pass” are just a few of words of wisdom that Carmen imparted in his family. He was a sweet and gentle soul and will be deeply missed by all who loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Sarah Jozwich and his son, Edward Eugene Wright. Graveside service will be held at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Oct. 23, 2017.
