Claud Guthrie Dies; Was Farm Caretaker

Claud Melvin Guthrie, 87, of 7650 South Ave, died of a heart ailment at 8:15 am Thursday while visiting at the home of a daughter.

Mr Guthrie was born Dec 28, 1888 in Falls Creek, Pa, a son of Calvin and Katie Colket Guthrie. He worked as a farmer and caretaker for 47 yeas at the McKay Farm, Route 224 and South Ave retiring in 161. He was a member of the Struthers United Presbyterian Church and it Fireside Club, a charter member of the Mahoning Valley Sportsmen's Association and a member of the Moose Lodge of Naples Fla.

He leaves his wife, the former Mildred S Young, whom he married in 1918, two sons, Henry of Youngstown and Donald of Woodworth; three daughters, Mrs Kathryn Lutheran and Mrs Janet Tentinger, both of Boardman and Mrs Mabel Demechko of Youngstown, a brother, Paul of Brookfield Pa, two sisters Mrs Kathryn Kennedy of Buffalo NY and Mrs Margaret Smoyer of Dubois, Pa; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Services will be held at 1pm Monday at the Davidson Becker Funeral Home where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Sunday. 11/26/1976 Youngstown Vindicator Pg 31
