Jack was a 1960 graduate of Pen Argyl High School and attended Burnley Workshop of the Poconos in Stroudsburg. He worked as a publicist for the Pen Argyl Area School District in the Wind Gap School until retiring. Prior to that, he was a shop manager for the former Jack Edwards Cabinetry in Pen Argyl, and he also worked for the former Grants Department Store in Bangor. Jack was a member of Faith Alive Community Church, Wind Gap, and a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pen Argyl. He was a member and past president of the Sertoma Club, past president of the Bangor Exchange Club, a board member for the Blue Valley Farm Show, and a former member of the Jaycees Club.
Jack is survived by a brother, Richard M. Shaplin, husband of Carolyn, of Pen Argyl; nephew, Richard M. Shaplin Jr., husband of Karen, of Perkasie, and two great nephews, Richard M. Shaplin III, and Ryan M. Shaplin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, at the James B. Gaffney Funeral Home, 200 S. Robinson Ave., Pen Argyl, PA, with Rev. Matthew Whistler officiating. Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Fairview Cemetery, Pen Argyl.
