John Barnet “J.B.” Arnwine, – known as “PaPaw J.B.” to a host of children passed away on Tuesday morning, October 17, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 2, 1940. He was a resident of McMinn County most of life. J.B. was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the textile industry. He was actively involved in the Calhoun Community serving as City Commissioner, three term Mayor, volunteer firefighter, member of the Calhoun-Charleston Utility District Board of Commissioners and active in the Calhoun Youth Sports Programs. He was a member of Calhoun First Baptist Church for over forty years where he served on numerous committees.
He is preceded in death by his parents Emerson Dake “Dee” and Sadie Mae Arnwine and sister Youble Carroll and her husband Earl.
J.B. leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of fifty one years Jewell Farmer Arnwine, one son Keith Arnwine and his wife Melanie, one daughter Karen Reynolds and her husband Doug, three granddaughters Courtney Arnwine (Cyle Harris), Cheyenne Reynolds and Christen Harbison, two grandsons Colton Reynolds and Caleb Arnwine (Christina), two great grandsons Jeremiah and Judah Arnwine, two granddaughters by choice Amy Jo Castor Billings and McKinley Grace Burns. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and a host of special friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for Friday night, October 20, 2017 at 7:00 PM at the Calhoun First Baptist Church located at 107 Church Street in Calhoun, TN with the Reverend Kevin Cheatham and Caleb Arnwine officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday evening from 4:00 PM until the 7:00 PM service time.
The interment and committal service will take place on Saturday morning, October 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Calhoun Cemetery and will conclude with military honors. Gary Knight, Charlie Allen, Bill Eledge, Jeff Long, Michael Long, Jeff Moore, Eric Eledge and Brad Farmer will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will include his nephews, JR, Rusty and Steve Carroll and the Adult Men’s Sunday School of First Baptist Church of Calhoun.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made the Calhoun First Baptist Church Building Fund in J.B.’s memory.
