Albert A. Heun, 99, Route 3, died Monday morning at Trinity Regional Hospital following a short illness. Services will be 9:45 A.M. Friday in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home, Fort Dodge. At 10:30 A.M. Friday there will be a service at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Clare, with Rev. Richard Kielbasa officiating at the Mass of Christian burial. There will be military grave side rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1856. Visitation will be after 2 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home, and there will be a vigil for the deceased at 8 P.M. Albert served in the U.S. Army as a medic during World War I. Survivors include daughters, Alice Smith, Fort Dodge, Eileen Nelson Humboldt, Betty Conlon, Pioneer, son Walter, Fort Dodge; 22 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren. Albert A. Heun was born June 4, 1891 in Somonauk, Ill. As a child he moved with his parents to Clare. He attended St. Matthew's School and after his education began farming in the Pioneer area. Heun served in U.S. Army as a medic during World War I. Following his discharge, he returned to the Pioneer area and started farming again. he married Charlotte L. Lyon in 1918 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Clare. They established their home on a farm near Pioneer. Until his retirement, they farmed in the Pioneer and Clare areas. She died in 1981. He became a resident of Marian Home in May 1990. Heun was honorary polka king for the Polka Club of Iowa. Other memberships include Polka Cub of America; World War I Veterans; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1856.

He never saw any fighting because before departing, his company all came down with the flu. When on the ship, over to Europe, the armistice was signed.
